Valentine’s Day may have been nearly a month and a half ago, but Heavenly Spire’s special update with James Darling and Quinn Valentine has stuck with me. It is a review that must be written, partly because I am bursting with the need to share this scene far and wide, and partly because it gives me an excuse to watch it on repeat.

For those who are unfamiliar with Heavenly Spire, it’s another creation from Shine Louise Houston, the directing force behind popular titles including Champion and The Crash Pad. This site focuses exclusively on male sexuality, which is an undeniably rare angle for queer porn to take. The models of the site are all cisgender or transgender men, or at least individuals who are comfortable identifying with men. While the Crash Pad Series is more of a third person snapshot of How Queers Have Sex, Heavenly Spire goes a bit slower and deeper: viewers see the models the way these men see themselves, and their favourite parts of their own bodies are often featured at the beginning of the scene.

Heavenly Spire addresses the one issue I have with queer porn: I love gay porn. I do enjoy the occasional flesh-and-blood erection on my screen, and cisgender men are few and far between in queer porn. Of course, gay porn does not address my desire to see other non-cocked/differently-cocked bodies, either. The porn on Heavenly Spire captures the raw, hard sexuality of masculine porn and shoots it through a queer lens.

This scene is pretty much the anti-mainstream, without being aggressively political about it. It’s Gay, it’s Trans, there’s a Feeldoe dildo used for anal sex, you see truly affectionate crush-gushing, and the cumshot is giggly. And it’s not just the mainstream porn checklist that this scene flippantly ignores: it doesn’t have the sweaty, muscly charge of hardcore gay porn, the consistent soft focus and flowery color scheme of lesbian porn, or the raw handicam DIY feel of queer porn. It’s not about dirty talk, erect cocks, soft kisses or politics. It’s about James and Quinn. The fact that they have different bits and talk dirty while softly kissing and sucking erect cocks is a reflection of their sexuality, not gay/bi/trans/queer/hardcore/twink/other sexuality.

Watching James Darling with Quinn Valentine fulfilled every desire I had as a queer viewer. I was completely turned on watching the two of them stroke each other’s cocks. I squealed with romantic glee each time they gently touched or looked at each other during their interview. Their feathers, bowties and adorable underwear made me want to throw on some fagtastically fabulous glitter. And the giggle fit between Quinn, James, and Shine at the end made me want to shoot or star in some queer porn myself.

This scene is, without a doubt, my kind of porn. Maybe even the best porn I’ve seen so far. Not just in terms of production or casting, but because it reflects everything I wanted to see. Five stars!!
